Memorial Foundation names Scholar Athletes of the Week for February 12
High School seniors Olivia Baur from Gibault Catholic High School and Brennen van Breusegen from Columbia High School were chosen as Memorial Foundation’s Scholar Athletes for the week of February 12.
The scholar athlete program, sponsored by Memorial Foundation in cooperation with Memorial Rehab and Sports Medicine and Memorial Medical Group Orthopedics and Sports Medicine recognizes one male and one female senior scholar athlete from a high school in Memorial’s primary and selected secondary service area. The weekly award winners from September 2017 through April 2018 will be eligible for one of two $1,500 scholarships to be awarded in May 2018.
Nominated by her mother, Stacy Baur, Olivia has a 4.2 GPA and participates on the varsity cross country team. She takes honors courses and volunteers at the Good Samaritan in Washington Park serving meals and distributing groceries. This semester she is traveling to Peru to serve at an orphanage.
Brennen was nominated by his basketball coach, Mark Sandstrom, has 4.0 GPA and is a member of varsity soccer, basketball and baseball. He has received many accolades in each of his sports and has committed to play baseball at University of Central Missouri. He has served on student council all four years and is a member of National Honor Society. He volunteers at the local food pantry, Special Olympics, freshmen orientation and with Columbia Police Department.
